Position Overview

We are seeking a Technical Writer II to develop and revise complex technical documentation that supports the marketing, operation, repair, and maintenance of company products. This role requires a strong technical background, attention to detail, and the ability to translate engineering concepts into clear, user-friendly documentation.

Key Responsibilities

• Create, revise, and maintain technical documentation such as product and functional descriptions; operating and maintenance procedures; fault isolation and repair procedures; illustrated parts break downs (IPBs); proposals, reports, and marketing literature.
• Ensure documentation complies with customer requirements, government specifications, engineering standards, and language usage principles.
• Research and collaborate with engineering staff to accurately document systems and equipment.
• Analyze and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical data to produce precise documentation.
• Evaluate and request new or revised illustrations/graphics to support technical publications.
• Provide time and cost estimates for documentation projects and assist in project planning.
• Participate in technical reviews, validation, and verification efforts (onsite and offsite).
• Support overall documentation design, format, and style.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, mechanics, electronics, and system operations.
• Proficiency with state-of-the-art publishing/page production tools and IETM (Interactive Electronic Technical Manual) development processes.
• Ability to understand and translate complex engineering designs into clear technical documentation.
• XML authoring tool experience (e.g., Arbortext Epic Editor, Oxygen).
• Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint; Access a plus).
• Adobe Acrobat Professional (or similar PDF markup tools) proficiency.
• Prior mechanical, electrical, or operator-level technical writing experience (defense industry strongly preferred).
• Familiarity with validation/verification processes; on-vehicle experience a plus.
• Strong customer interaction and cross-functional teamwork skills.
• Knowledge of interactive electronic technical manual standards, markup languages, and relevant military/commercial standards preferred.

Education & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant technical discipline OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in technical writing, preferably within the defense industry.
