Duties/Responsibilities

  • Operate radio station according to FCC standards.
  • Perform as a friendly, welcoming and professional voice for WUGA. (25% of time)
  • Ensure that radio broadcast follows stated programming schedule (air the correct programs at the correct times). (25% of time)
  • Operate and/or monitor various equipment and report failures to appropriate staff. (10% of time)
  • Answer the telephone and be prepared to accept visitors to the station. Serve as a representative of the station and/or the university in an appropriate manner. (10% of time)
  • Other duties as assigned. (5% of time)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Preference given to candidates with pre-existing knowledge and skills in operating computers and other electronic equipment, or strong aptitude in learning and operating highly technical equipment.

Position Summary

This is a part-time substitute Announcer/Producer position for WUGA, the public radio station serving Athens and Northeast Georgia. The announcer/producer serves as a radio board operator and on-air general “host” for WUGA’s radio broadcast — announcing local weather and station identifications. The substitute announcer serves as a replacement when illness or other activities prevent other announcers from working their regular shifts. Previous radio experience preferred. The ideal candidate will be available for short-notice shift assignments (24 hours or less) and capable of reaching campus in inclement weather.
