Overview

Adjunct Faculty, Film & Moving Image (Writing) at Stevenson University in the School of Design, Arts, and Communication: Film & Moving Image. Education/Experience

MFA in screenwriting or creative writing, plus college/university teaching experience and at least three years of professional screenwriting experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special consideration will be given to candidates with significant experience bringing their scripts to production and distribution.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Industry knowledge of screenwriting structure and formats
  • Experience reading and analyzing professional screenplays for film and television
  • Experience using a variety of professional screenwriting software
  • Demonstrated teaching experience in film and moving-image writing
  • History of developing and maintaining a professional network to support student opportunities
  • Ability to read, listen, and communicate information and ideas through spoken and written language
  • Ability to use various means of communication to work with students, peers, and external contacts
  • Ability to work effectively with peers in the department, School of Design, other University departments, and Career Services for advising, mentoring, and placement
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and evaluate undergraduate students
  • Familiarity with instructional techniques for students with varying preparation levels and abilities
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and technology in the classroom
  • All courses require strong technology and organizational skills and experience with Blackboard or similar platforms
  • Ability to travel regionally to field trip site locations
  • Valid driver\'s license with a good driving record; must be insurable

Physical Requirements

Position may require sitting or standing for long periods. Ability to speak clearly and effectively for extended periods. Additional hours for meetings and events, including evenings; some weekend meetings may be required.

Essential Functions

Teaching responsibilities include classroom or telecommunications teaching, preparation, maintaining and improving competence in taught subjects, preparing teaching materials, conferring with students on course materials, directing individual and group studies, maintaining quality control of student productions and practica, reviewing written examinations and papers, evaluating presentations, and supervising independent study projects.

Professional service involves applying academic and professional expertise to serve the profession, the University, and the community.

Administrative responsibilities include student advising, developing syllabi, grading coursework, providing course content and developing new courses for the Film & Moving Image major, curriculum development, serving on faculty committees, participating in faculty governance, and submitting final grades.

Assume regional liaison roles (NYC to DC) with related professionals and facilities to develop and sustain the program and to support internships and job opportunities for majors, as well as assist with recruitment of prospective students.

Collegiality, professional conduct, and ethical behavior are expected to enhance teaching, learning, and the reputation of all in the academy. Faculty members are expected to act in accordance with professional and ethical principles when dealing with others.
