Overview

The University of Kentucky invites applications for two assistant professor positions in the School of Information Science within the College of Communication and Information. This is a nine-month, tenure-track (regular title) position with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2026, reporting to the School Director. Tenure eligibility follows Administrative Regulation 2:2-1 and university procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a 2-2 graduate level teaching load with opportunities to teach across the School’s programs.
  • Distribute effort approximately 50% research, 45% teaching, and 5% service.
  • Engage in teaching, advising, maintaining an active research program, and participating in university and professional service.
  • Collaborate with doctoral students within the College’s interdisciplinary Ph.D. program.

Qualifications

  • Earned Ph.D. or be in ABD status in information science, computer science, library science, or a related field at the time of the interview; Ph.D. must be earned by August 2026 for appointment to the rank of assistant professor and eligibility for the probationary period toward tenure.
  • Interest in areas such as community engagement and outreach, instruction and information literacy, archives and digital stewardship, and health and social information services is encouraged.

The School of Information Science is part of the College of Communication and Information, which also includes the School of Journalism and Media and other departments. The college offers online master’s degrees in library science and information communication technology, an undergraduate major, and related programs.
