Purpose: To create, modify, maintain, or edit content on the APS district web properties; uphold content, usability, and accessibility standards across district web properties; maintain the brand, voice, and integrity of the information on district web properties; provide support to APS employees, who are web content editors, via consultation, support materials, and training; manage workflow of website content; perform other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Creates content for APS websites, implementing accessibility and web content best practices.
  • Updates and edits existing content on APS websites, implementing accessibility and web content best practices.
  • Updates APS websites with emergency and other time-sensitive information.
  • Assists in the layout and design of web pages on APS websites.
  • Provides customer support, including documentation, training, and troubleshooting, to department website contributors, district personnel, school principals, and school staff.
  • Works with APS Web Team to develop website strategy and maintain website architecture.
  • Creates and maintains internal documentation and procedural information.
  • Collaborates with the APS Web Team on enhancement requests, quality assurance, accessibility remediation, and usability testing.
  • Works as member of Communications department.
Duties. All duties are standard and apply to all Albuquerque Public Schools employees.
  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, APS employee handbook, employment contract and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through District mandated, individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within areas of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities.
  • Understanding of writing for the web best practices, plain language, and content strategy.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, SEO, or website analytics
  • Experience in implementing digital accessibility standards. Understanding of Web Content Accessibility
  • Guidelines (WCAG 2.1), Section 508 Accessibility Standards or ADA, Section 504.
  • Knowledge of informational architecture (IA) and user experience (UX) strategy
  • Knowledge of confidentiality laws and regulations governing the use of and access to student information.
  • Experience in 1:1 and group training in technical systems and software programs.
  • Understanding of basic web technologies and Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Plone, Finalsite, WordPress,
  • Joomla, Drupal, or similar system
  • Proficient in writing broadcast email communications and publishing using tools such as Emma or MailChimp.
  • Ability to work with and relate to people from all backgrounds and levels of an organization and foster a diverse
  • working environment - in-person, via email, or on the telephone
  • Proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Suite Apps, Google Apps, and MS Office
REQUIREMENTS:

Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years' experience in web content writing, development, or editing; OR
  • Associate's degree and 5 years' experience in web content writing, development, or editing
  • Skilled in writing and editing engaging content for the web.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in active listening, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to balance competing tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to establish collaborative working and team relationship, including working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
