Responsibilities
- Promote and market library services.
- Assist patrons in the use of library facilities; explain library policies and procedures to the public, and library staff.
- Perform reference work at a professional level, according to Level of incumbent.
- Select, order, maintain, and weed collections in assigned subject areas.
- Present programming, story times, tours, and outreach events.
- May supervise, review work, and evaluate clerical and/or paraprofessional employees.
- Select, arrange, and promote the library through outreach activities.
- Keeps current with materials acquired by library; prepares statistics, reports, and programs.
- Designs, coordinates and implements library programs for special events.
- Index and catalog material.
- Provide readers advisory.
- Answer customer inquiries.
Titles and Education/Experience
- Librarian I — Education: Possession of a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an American Library Association accredited library school, preferably with additional study in library, business and/or public administration.
- Librarian II — Experience: One (1) year of experience equivalent to a Librarian I in Merced County; Education: Possession of a Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an American Library Association accredited library school, preferably with additional study in library, business and/or public administration.
