Overview

Librarian I – Full Time (35 hours/week) — Niagara Falls Public Library, New York

Salary: $40,734.00 annually. The position focuses on providing library services to adults and researchers, primarily in the local history department, with occasional shifts at the main reference desk. The role includes preparing for and conducting programs, assisting in maintaining collections, promoting library materials and services (physical and online), and outreach to local community agencies as needed. The schedule may require occasional shifts at the Main or LaSalle Branch.

Responsibilities

  • Provide library services to visitors of all ages, with emphasis on adults and researchers.
  • Prepare for and conduct programs; assist in maintaining collections related to local history.
  • Promote the use of library materials and services (both physical and online).
  • Engage in outreach to local community agencies as needed.
  • Work scheduled shifts at the Main or LaSalle Branch as needed by the schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Knowledge of modern library organizations, procedures, policies, aims, and services.
  • Knowledge of archival processes and cataloging.
  • Working knowledge of ArtSpace, Past Perfect, and WorkFlows management systems.
  • Strong commitment to the promotion of local history and appreciation of local history as a community asset.
  • Graduation from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association or registered by the NYS Education Department to grant degrees, with a Master’s Degree in Library Science, Information Services, or equivalent.
  • Must hold New York State Public Librarian Certification at the time of appointment.

Additional Details

  • The selected candidate is encouraged to live in the City of Niagara Falls; candidates may reside in Niagara or Erie counties.
  • Candidates must submit verifiable proof of MLS to demonstrate minimum qualifications.
  • Candidates who already possess a NYS Public Librarian's Professional Certificate must provide a copy of the certificate or the certificate number and date issued.

Compensation & Schedule

The annual salary is $40,734 with benefits including New York State retirement, medical/dental/vision insurance, paid vacation, sick leave, and PTO. The schedule includes daytime, evening, and weekend shifts totaling 35 hours per week (one required Saturday shift per month and one evening shift per week).
