The SCA’s Architecture and Engineering Department is responsible for the development of scope, design, and construction documents for new school buildings, additions, lease conversions and renovation work of existing schools for New York City’s approximately 1.1 million students. Our projects are intentionally and thoughtfully designed; positive impact design is at the forefront of all our projects.
Our In-House studio is a multidisciplinary practice responsible for designing some of the largest and most complex schools in our 1,500+ school portfolio as well as renovation work to existing schools. Our other two studios manage external consultants from design inception to completion. Our three studios are comprised of architects and engineers who deliver high quality custom designed, sustainable, and resilient public schools.

Job Description Summary
Electrical Engineer - Level A, B or C reports to a Managing Engineer, or higher assignment level Engineer and is responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed, to achieve the objectives of the Authority.
Minimum Qualifications
- All levels require a bachelor’s degree.
- Level A: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer.
- Level B: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and three years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project team, or squad leader.
- Level C: A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer and six years of full-time, paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; three years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility.
- Current New York State Professional Engineer license must be maintained for the duration of employment for all levels.
Responsibilities
- Strong familiarity with NFPA-70 National Electrical Code.
- Familiarity with New York City Building and Electrical Codes and relevant industry standards of practice in professional electrical engineering design.
- Experience in the design of electrical power systems, including service room layouts, distribution systems, and load calculations.
- Proficiency in the design of low-voltage systems such as public address, data/telecommunications, and security camera systems.
- Expertise in fire alarm system design, with in-depth knowledge of FDNY requirements.
- Knowledge of NYC Energy Conservation Code (2020) and experience with lighting and control system design.
- Understanding of contract documents for engineering projects and the ability to administer them during the construction phase.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team in a fast-paced environment.
Engineer Roles
- Engineer - A – Responsible for performing work in a variety of assignments and technical roles, as needed; provide overall coordination for in-house design projects; prepare scope and construction documents; coordinate with staff, outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and government agencies; may serve as project leader and sign/seal drawings.
- Engineer - B – Direct lower level engineers and oversee more complex design projects; may act as a discipline leader and mentor; coordinate with consultants and contingent staff; perform related duties and the duties of Engineer A.
- Engineer - C – Manage teams on multiple complex projects; lead design and exploration programs; ensure compliance with codes and schedule; may coordinate with outside consultants; may sign/seal drawings; perform duties of Engineer B or A as needed.

- Engineer B: $97,304 - $151,643
- Engineer C: $102,653 - $166,781
