Overview
Assistant Professor in Creative Writing (Fiction) – University of Florida
Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) • Work Type: Full Time • Tenure-track, 9-month
Responsibilities
- Teach in the BA track and MFA program in creative writing, with a focus on fiction; the normal teaching assignment is two courses per semester.
- Maintain an active writing and publication career.
- Teach four courses per academic year at undergraduate and graduate levels; mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students.
- Contribute service to the Department, the university, and the profession, including MFA program coordination (events planning, admissions, student mentoring, curriculum oversight) and engagement with departmental committees and processes.
Qualifications
- Minimum: highest degree appropriate to the field or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience. A book or substantial record of literary works is required.
- Preferred: MFA and/or PhD in Creative Writing strongly preferred. Interest in genres beyond literary fiction (creative nonfiction, screenplays, YA fiction and/or children's literature, and graphic literature). Service or administrative experience is desirable.
Program and Location
UF is a major, comprehensive, land-grant, research university. The MFA program within the Department of English is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The program prioritizes world literature in English.
