Overview The City of Fullerton is recruiting for a highly experienced Library Director to manage the day-to-day activities of the Fullerton Main Library and Hunt Branch. The successful candidate will have a broad background in library services and a strong track record of success in managing a multi-faceted organization. The new Director will work closely with the Library Board of Trustees and the City Manager’s Office and will be directly responsible for a department of 24 regular employees, with an operating budget of approximately 4.9 million. This senior-level executive will be results-driven, with well-grounded, ethical decision-making skills, superior interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated leadership potential, and outstanding public speaking abilities.

Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day activities of the Fullerton Main Library and Hunt Branch. Lead and develop a department of 24 regular employees and oversee an operating budget of approximately 4.9 million. Collaborate with the Library Board of Trustees and the City Manager’s Office. Demonstrate results-driven leadership, ethical decision-making, and strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills.
Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and a master’s degree in library science or a related field from an accredited college or university.
Experience: A minimum of eight years of recent, continuous, progressively responsible professional public library experience, including three years at the mid-management/supervisory level or higher in an organization comparable to Fullerton in terms of scope of activity.

Only those candidates deemed most qualified will be invited to interview with the City, with the final selection made by the City Manager. All employment offers are conditional upon successful completion of a background check. All new hires will be fingerprinted and have fingerprints verified with the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires that you must be a U.S. citizen or an alien lawfully authorized to work in the United States to be eligible for hire. All new hires will be required to provide documentation to verify status.
