Position Title: Library Clerk

Job Description
This position is responsible to provide informational assistance to students at the Library Help Desk, assist librarians with library acquisitions and interlibrary loans, and performs clerical tasks associated with the circulation of library materials.
Essential Job Functions
- Staff the circulation desk and provide excellent customer service to all students, faculty, staff and community patrons.
- Provide general informational and directional assistance.
- Assist in the acquisition and processing of library materials.
- Shelve books and process holds and requests.
- Assist with interlibrary borrowing, lending and scanning tasks.
- Assist librarians in the general operation of the integrated library system.
- Develop a working knowledge of the print and non-print collections, online catalog and proprietary database systems to which the library subscribes.
Other Job Functions
- Additional point of contact to answer the telephone, take messages, and forward messages to the appropriate department personnel.
- Occasionally open mail and forward materials to appropriate personnel.
- Maintain up-to-date professional credentials, best practices, and current disciplines including continued educational requirements through certifications, seminars, training programs, etc.
- Maintain and develop work related knowledge, skills, and competencies related to the job through professional and cross training opportunities.
- Attend all required meetings and training.
- Perform additional grade-level support duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel required.
- Knowledge of the English language including excellent proofreading skills, alphabetizing, and the ability to prepare correspondence that is grammatically correct and error free required.
- Entry-level knowledge required of clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Entry-level knowledge required of professional office and telephone technology and procedures.
- Good math, verbal and written communication skills.
- Read, comprehend and follow instructions/work orders.
- Ability to respond to unpleasant, angry or discourteous people in a professional manner.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments.
- Ability to manage multiple projects/tasks concurrently and meet varied deadlines.
- Identify problems, inform others and assist with problem solving
Required Qualifications
EDUCATION :
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience
- Prior work performance must have met or exceeded appropriate work standards.
Clearances
The successful candidate will be required to obtain/provide the following clearances prior to hire:
- PA Child History clearance
- PA Criminal Record Check clearance
- FBI Federal Criminal History Record clearance
Preferred Qualifications
EXPERIENCE :
- 1-year experience providing clerical support in a business office setting preferred.

- Prolonged sitting
- Frequent standing/walking or otherwise moving around department/campus
- Repetitive finger/hand movements
- Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling & carrying
Salary
$12.72/hour

Monday - 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Tuesday - 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Wednesday - 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Thursday - 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Friday - 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
