Note: This is an onsite position located in Jackson, MS. Relocation assistance and sponsorship is not provided. The official title will be Communications Specialist II or Sr Communications Specialist depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Overview

The communications specialist will work collaboratively within the communications department to manage and execute external and internal stakeholder communications that support the company’s vision, mission, brand and strategic endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Execute communication strategies: Engage and inform internal and external stakeholders, including cross-functional teams, through tailored communication strategies.
  • Media and stakeholder engagement: Develop responses to media inquiries and for use with other external stakeholders. Manage logistics for news conferences. May serve as a company spokesperson.
  • Collaborate on key messaging: Work with senior communications staff to develop and distribute messaging, including talk points, news releases, web, social media and other content to support the company’s owned communications channels, as well as external channels managed by other departments.
  • Editorial oversight: Help establish editorial standards, including reviewing, editing and providing direction on content from organizations across the operating company and corporation. Some project management, including budgeting and requests for proposal, may be involved.
  • Crisis communication support: Provide crisis communication support during storms or other emergencies, ensuring accurate and timely messages are shared with appropriate audiences.
  • Manage social media: Help manage and grow Entergy Mississippi’s social media presence, researching and crafting key message to engage audiences.
  • Create multimedia content: Develop compelling multimedia content such as photos, videos, audio, webcasts and other digital media tailored for internal and external audiences.
  • Develop and support integrated marketing and communication campaigns: Help implement strategic corporate communication campaigns and provide guidance to support public relations and marketing efforts, ensuring messages resonate with target audiences and lead to positive business outcomes.
  • Brand management: Assist with managing Entergy's brand standards, including strategies, materials and communication plans to support and promote major functional initiatives and projects.
  • Monitor industry news: Stay on top of industry trends and competitor activities to spot emerging issues and keep the company informed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Communications Specialist II: 3-5+ years of experience; Sr. Communications Specialist: 5-7+ years of experience.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong experience in public relations and communications planning. Understanding of the public relations research, planning, implementation and evaluation process. Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) is a plus. Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills across multiple formats. AP style knowledge required. Prior successful media relations experience and/or strong relationships with media desired. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Office, HTML editing software, analytics tools, and various multimedia production programs. Experience in stakeholder management and high-level communications. Demonstrated effective use and understanding of internal communications channels, strategies and measurement. Proven success in employee engagement. Strong collaboration and influencing skills. Industry knowledge (regulated environment) a plus. Crisis and risk management skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to change.
