Visual Endeavors is seeking a hands-on, technically curious Studio Technician to support operations in our Santa Cruz creative R&D space. This part-time role blends AV tech work, light fabrication, and warehouse/shop organization — perfect for someone who enjoys building things, solving problems, and staying close to the tools.
We’re a boutique creative technology studio designing immersive experiences, large-scale video systems, and interactive environments for live events and branded activations. Our Santa Cruz space is not just a warehouse — it’s our lab: a place for prototyping ideas, maintaining specialty gear, and developing new creative tools.
You’ll be working on projects that involve PixelCannon media servers, BlackTrax tracking systems, and other AV infrastructure that powers high-end shows. You’ll also help maintain the studio, assist in fabrication projects, and contribute to technical experiments. For the right person, this can evolve into a Creative Technologist role.
What You’ll Do
- Studio Ops + Shop Support: Keep our studio organized, clean, and optimized for creative production
- Track inventory, coordinate gear check-outs, and maintain road cases & cables
- Assist in prepping and packing for installations, shows, and client rentals
- Maintain tools, organize consumables, and support the day-to-day flow of the space
AV + Systems Support
- Assist in maintaining and testing PixelCannon and BlackTrax systems
- Help with custom PC imaging, media server tuning, and gear troubleshooting
- Build and label cabling, racks, and network setups
- Participate in technical demos and studio R&D
Light Fabrication + Build Support
- Support shop builds and prototyping (props, custom mounts, LED fixtures)
- Collaborate on simple scenic mods or sensor integration projects
- Learn and assist with CAD, 3D printing, laser cutting, or CNC tasks
You Might Be a Good Fit If You…
- Have 2+ years experience in AV, warehouse/shop environments, or backstage tech
- Are detail-oriented and like building, fixing, and organizing things
- Are familiar with tools like multimeters, soldering irons, and AV test gear
- Know your way around managed AV networks, DMX over Ethernet, or lighting control
- Are comfortable moving gear, rolling road cases, and lifting 50+ lbs
- Have a maker mindset and are familiar with 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC tooling
- Are curious, self-directed, and excited to grow in a creative technology role
Bonus Points For
- Experience with BlackTrax, TouchDesigner, Notch, Disguise, or custom PC builds
- Theatrical lighting or show control systems (QLab, Pixera, Resolume, etc.)
- Knowledge of sACN/ArtNet, Dante, or networked AV environments
- Light scripting/coding (Python, Lua, JS)
- Fabrication tools and software: Fusion360, Illustrator, laser cutters, 3D printers
- An interest in R&D, interactive installations, and live entertainment systems
Why This Is Cool
This is more than a warehouse job. You’ll be helping run a creative lab, working closely within a small team with an award-winning designer/technologist, and supporting gear that ends up on tour with A-list acts or on the floor at major tech events. Whether you’re a UCSC grad, local maker, AV tech, or self-taught fabricator, this is a killer way to stay sharp and grow toward a bigger creative tech career.
