Hour Media is hiring: Special Projects Editor in Troy

Hour Media, the largest publisher of city and regional magazines in the country, is seeking a Special Projects Editor to join our staff headquartered in Troy, Michigan. This position is primarily responsible for copyediting some of our owned-and-operated titles, custom publications, and sponsored content articles.

Specifically, you’ll edit copy for consistent style, grammar, punctuation, and spelling; fact-check content; assist with copy-fitting and writing headlines, decks, and captions; and serve as an editorial gatekeeper/page proof reviewer before we go to press. You’ll work as part of a multidisciplinary team that writes, edits, photographs, and designs custom publications, special advertising sections, and sponsored content for clients. You’ll also have the opportunity to pitch ideas and contribute stories as time permits.

Desired skills and experience:

• Passion for language, grammar, and proper spelling.
• Ability to multi-task on projects covering a wide variety of subjects and industries.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Proficiency with AP Style and Chicago Manual.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Adobe InDesign and InCopy.
• Experience with the WordPress CMS and project management software is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or related field. A degree in Linguistics is a plus.
• At least one year of copyediting experience – magazine experience preferred.
