About the role
Nature Climate Change is a monthly journal that publishes research on the nature, causes or impacts of global climate change and its implications for economy, policy and the world at large. We are seeking an editor with experience in environmental science who can contribute to editorial decisions and strategy, and who is interested in working across Nature Portfolio journals as needed. This is a permanent position primarily supporting Nature Climate Change, with potential collaboration across journals. Responsibilities and journal assignments may evolve over time in response to portfolio needs.
Responsibilities
- Handle original research papers and work with editor teams on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
- Make well-reasoned editorial decisions based on expert advice.
- Contribute to content and strategy for Nature Climate Change and other Nature Portfolio journals.
- Commission, edit content such as Reviews and Comments, and write editorials.
- Liaise with editors at other journals in the Nature Portfolio and with experts in the international scientific community.
- Attend conferences and visit research institutions.
Qualifications
- A PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to environmental science or climate change.
- Additional research experience is valuable but not required.
- Thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
- Passion for science and breadth of interest in scientific research beyond one’s specialty.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including fluent English (written and spoken).
- Ability to read and assess novelty, context and implications of research for the journal.
- Willingness to travel and engage with scientists worldwide.
- Editorial experience is not required, but applicants with editorial experience are encouraged and may be considered for Senior Editor positions.
Logistics
The successful candidate will report to the Chief Editor. This is a permanent role with start date as soon as possible, based in Shanghai, Beijing, New York or New Jersey.
