Library Clerk - Circulation Job at Indian River County in Vero Beach

Performs routine tasks requiring no previous training in, or special knowledge of, library practices and procedures; follows well-established procedures and policies. This is an unskilled clerical position, working under the close supervision of a higher-level library staff person or supervisor.
Responsibilities include:
- Sorts and shelves circulating library materials
- Checks in and out library materials using an automated library system
- Registers new patrons and updates existing patron records
- Answers telephones and provides routine information or refers and transfers calls
- Collects fines
- Provides basic assistance in the public computer department
Education and Experience:
High school diploma/GED and one to two years related working experience, or an equivalent combination of formal education and working experience.
Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations:
- None.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of the organization of the library and the Dewey Decimal and/or Library of Congress systems for shelving.
Knowledge of basic circulation procedures and policies.
Ability to read and understand alphabetic and numeric characters rapidly and accurately.
Ability to effectively communicate and interact with adults and children.
Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to concentrate while shelving.
Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Ability to push and pull heavy book carts and to repetitively shelve large, moderate to heavy books.
Must possess skill in the operation of computers, including Windows and the Internet
Environmental Conditions:
Work is performed inside in a library setting.
