MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Six years of direct professional experience or Master's degree can substitute.
  • One year of library cataloging experience.

PREFERENCES:

  • Master’s degree in library and information science from a nationally accredited program.
  • One year of original cataloging experience.
  • Knowledge of rules and procedures for bibliographic control.
  • Knowledge of rules and principles for organizing, cataloging, maintaining and providing access to library materials.
  • Experience working with state or federal documents.
  • Strong technology skills including Microsoft Office products and automated library systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Acts as a liaison to state entities to ensure receipt of Legislatively mandated reports and their addition to the library’s bibliographic database. Coordinates the development and visibility of the state reports collection. Produces required reports and lists.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and addition of electronic versions of state publications to the state catalog, monitoring the electronic holdings, and coordinating database changes.
  • Performs complex original cataloging of library materials in all formats for the library’s collections and performs maintenance of bibliographic, serial and authority records in library catalog.
  • Performs other work-related duties as required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of rules and principles for organizing, cataloging, maintaining, and providing access to library materials.
  • Knowledge of automated library systems.
  • Ability to work with, and search, a variety of computer applications.
  • Ability to perform extended data entry.
  • Ability to lift and process boxes of books that may weigh up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to bend and reach to shelve materials.
  • Ability to climb and descend stairs.
  • Ability to push loaded book trucks.
