Job Title: K-8 Music Teacher (Full-time w/one day Grant Funded)

Contract: Teacher

Reports to: Principal/Superintendent

Overview Of The Role

To develop in each pupil an interest in music, using skills and techniques with musical equipment and teach how to read music appropriate to the pupil’s interest and abilities; to develop understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music.

DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in music to K-8 grade students, following the course of study adopted by the Milford School Department, and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Provides instruction by which pupils develop concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about music.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of music disciplines, such as history, theory, and performance.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of instruments, audio technology, and musical genres
  • Ability to relate to students of diverse backgrounds and musical interests, broaden their musical horizons, and challenge them creatively and academically
  • Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
  • Provides individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and music abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive studio environment.
  • Instructs pupils in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Organizes storage areas and controls use of materials, equipment and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
  • Evaluates each pupil’s performance and growth in knowledge and understandings and prepares progress reports.
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional materials, tools, instructional aids, and maintains required inventory records.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Maintains an auditable record of pupil attendance and makes daily reports of pupils absent each period.
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.

QUALIFICATIONS And LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Highly qualified in content area
  • Maine State Certification
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Must Meet Maine State Fingerprint Requirement
