The Department of Music seeks applicants for a tenure track, faculty position to serve as Principal Tubist with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra beginning August 1, 2026. Position is a full-time, benefitted position. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Department of Music is made up of ~30 faculty/artist teachers and over 150 music majors and minors. The department presents over 150 musical performances for the public each year. In addition, several of the major performing ensembles of the department travel throughout Georgia, the Southeast, and abroad, performing for schools, civic groups, and as part of community concert series.

Job Summary

The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate applied Tuba and Euphonium for majors and minors, recruiting and maintaining an active Tuba and Euphonium studio, and performing with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra as Principal Tuba.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate applied Tuba and Euphonium for majors and minors.
  • Recruiting and maintaining an active Tuba and Euphonium studio.
  • Working with brass chamber ensembles and studio classes.
  • Performing with the Valdosta Symphony Orchestra as Principal Tuba.
  • Maintaining an active regional, national, and international presence as a performer.
  • Ability to teach in additional areas of Music (theory, history, etc.), or general education courses (music appreciation, etc.).
  • Faculty members are expected to make substantive contributions to the department, university, and community through service.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or DMA in Tuba or Euphonium by appointment date.
  • Experience teaching college-level applied Tuba and Euphonium.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting.
