Function / Position Summary
To collaborate with certified teachers to provide a well-organized, relevant and welcoming library resource center in which students and staff may fully take advantage of the library materials and STEAM equipment available. Uphold School District U-46 ICARE Standards.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Work with staff and students to support knowledge and skills needed to access and use library materials. Collaborate with certified teachers to plan and prepare for the upcoming lessons. Implement individual or small/whole group instructional lessons or related activities under the supervision of a certified teacher. Support teachers with library activities that support the district curriculum. Circulates materials to students and staff using the district-supported Library Information System and following district guidelines. Collaborates on researching and ordering library materials (print, equipment, and supplies) that support the curriculum and reflect the diversity of the school's demographic population. Prepare materials for easy accessibility and circulation, including but not limited to labeling, stamping, book covers, etc. Maintain an organized library, including shelving, mending materials, and removing outdated, worn, and unusable materials from circulation as needed. Complete inventory of all library materials, generate inventory reports, and resolve discrepancies. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff, and department information within the school and community. Maintain a welcoming and positive learning environment in the library/media center. Uphold library, school, and district standards/procedures/policies. Attend staff development opportunities, including meetings and workshops as assigned. Collaborate with building staff, using effective written and verbal communication skills. Other duties as assigned.
Education
Paraeducator, Substitute, Professional Educator or Provisional Educator License required. Minimum education requirement for a Paraeducator License is completion of at least 60 semester hours of college coursework or a passing score on either the ETA ParaPro exam or ACT WorkKeys (Applied Mathematics/Applied Math & Reading for Information/Workplace Documents) Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.
Experience / Knowledge
Experience working in a library is preferred. Effective communication skills. Experience working with students in an educational setting is preferred.
Physical Demands
Ability to assist in the lifting of materials up to 50 pounds with proper technique.
Terms of Employment
$17.56/ hour
