SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Director and the Technical Services Supervisor, the Technology Resource Specialist provides essential technical support for both library patrons and staff. This role also manages all technology-related makerspace programsincluding 3-D printing, die-cutting, and sewing- and assists with front desk activities and manages the librarys periodicals collection.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Technology maintenance and setup for library programs and events.
- Technology Support assistance: Provide one-on-one and group guidance to library patrons and staff, assisting them in technology and in the safe and effective use of makerspace equipment.
- Training and instruction: Develop and lead workshops and classes on various technologies and related crafts. This may include teaching topics like 3D printing, laser cutting, robotics, soldering, and design software.
- Equipment management: Perform regular maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor repairs on all makerspace hardware. Specialists are also responsible for managing equipment inventories and keeping a record of usage and repairs.
- Policy and safety enforcement: Ensure the makerspace is a safe and orderly environment by enforcing its rules and safety guidelines.
- Resource management and collection development: Stay current with new technology and trends in the maker movement to make informed recommendations on what materials, equipment, and software the library should acquire. Make recommendations for purchasing supplies.
- Manages the periodical collection, including print and electronic resources. This involves tracing, claiming, and replacing missing issues, as well as managing back issues.
- Performs all circulation desk duties.
- Performs other related duties of a similar nature and complexity as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent computer literacy skills and knowledge of emerging technologies.
- Technical proficiency: Expertise in operating and troubleshooting a wide array of makerspace tools, such as 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, sewing machines, and electronics.
- Customer service: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Creative mindset: A passion for hands-on creation and the ability to think creatively about how to develop new services and programs.
- Adaptability: The ability to learn and teach new technologies continuously as the field of library technology evolves. Project management: The ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, often with tight deadlines.
- Education: A bachelor's degree in a related field (such as education, computer science, or engineering). Experience in a makerspace is highly desirable.
- One to three years of experience in a related field.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
