Health and Life Sciences Librarian

Responsibilities
- Information Literacy: Coordinate, develop, and teach information literacy sessions to health sciences courses. Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy instruction into the health sciences curricula, with a focus on research skills related to Evidence-Based Practice. Design and develop instructional materials, online tutorials, and other learning objects to assist students and faculty.
- Research Assistance: Provide individual and small group research support for students and faculty in-person and virtually. Maintain and create web-based research guides for subject areas and courses.
- Collection Development: Select books, e-books, streaming video, and other materials that support the health sciences. Recommend health sciences databases and journals in collaboration with the other librarians during the yearly subscriptions cycle. Communicate with faculty regarding purchases of library materials. Evaluate health sciences information products such as article databases, e-book collections, streaming video, and clinical knowledge systems.
- Outreach: Actively engage and support students and faculty in the health sciences to deepen connections between the library and the college. Provide training sessions and support for individuals or groups on topics such as bibliographic management tools, scholarly communication, literature reviews, and systematic searching.
- Participate in General Education information literacy instruction and research assistance with the other librarians.
- Other subject liaison duties as assigned.
- Take part in professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in library/information science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
- Education or work-related experience in the health sciences preferred.
- Experience in a medical or academic library preferred.
- Teaching experience preferred.
- Continuing education or course work relating to Evidence-Based Practice preferred.
Technology Skills
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite and other related computer skills.
- Experience with advanced search strategies using databases such as PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, and PsycINFO preferred.
- Experience with online tutorials, bibliographic management tools, web-based research guides, and video conferencing/online collaboration tools preferred.
Human Relations Skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently as required.
- Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, ability, socio-economic background, or job type.
