The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order.

The Printing Section provides print materials upon request by the NYPD. The Printing Section is a full service in-plant print facility comparable to any commercial printer in the private sector.

With general guidance and direction, the Graphic Artist will exercise initiative, judgment, and creative abilities to conceptualize and execute a wide variety of graphic art assignments, including design work, print production, finishing, and distribution.

Responsibilities include creating maps, books, pamphlets, annual reports, posters, presentations, ceremonial invitations and certificates, flyers, stationery items, signage, and displays in buildings and structures. The Graphic Artist will also select media and processes as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree, with a major in fine or graphic arts, from an accredited college and one year of full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist.
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of training in a technical school approved by a state’s Department of Education or comparable governmental agency, in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout, computer graphics, and other art media, and three years of acceptable full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist.

Preferred Skills

  • Editing/Design work for printing, Apple iMac computer, Computer Graphics, Fonts, Independent thinking, Adobe Creative Suite, Knowledge of composition, pagination, print-related knowledge, and background.

The salary range for this position is $68,377.00 – $116,384.00. New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
