District Communication Specialist

Position Type: Administration/ Public Relations/ Communications

Location: Mad River Central Office

District: Mad River Local Schools

8 hours per day / 260 day contract
Starting Salary: AS degree - $76,241 / BA degree - $76,531

We are seeking a dynamic and creative Communication Specialist to manage and enhance our district’s communication efforts. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on engaging diverse audiences, coordinating events, and creating impactful content that reflects our schools’ achievements and activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Website Management: Maintain and update the district’s website to ensure timely, accurate, and accessible information.
  • Mobile Communication Platforms: Oversee and develop content for mobile communication tools, including ParentSquare, to strengthen connections with families and staff. Provide support and training for staff on ParentSquare to maximize community engagement.
  • Graphic Design and Content Creation: Design visually appealing graphics, flyers, and promotional materials for events, newsletters, and social media.
  • Social Media Expertise: Oversee and manage content for district social media platforms.
  • Event Coordination: Plan, promote, and support district and building-level events (e.g. the District STEM night, Spaghetti Dinner, after-school activities, Friends of Education initiatives, etc.).
  • Photography and Digital Media: Capture and curate photos/videos of school activities, events, and student achievements for digital and print communications.
  • Community and Media Relations: Build relationships with local media outlets to share stories about district programs, successes, and events.
  • Emergency Communications: Collaborate with leadership to coordinate and deliver timely communications during emergencies or critical incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in website management, mobile communication platforms (e.g., ParentSquare), and social media.
  • Strong graphic design skills using common design software.
  • Experience planning and organizing events of various sizes.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience coordinating with local media and managing crisis or emergency communications preferred.
