East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, invites applications for a fixed-term Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor in the School of Communication. This is a nine-month, full-time faculty position available Fall 2026 with a 4:4 teaching load and service expectations at the unit, college, and/or university levels.

Organizational Unit
School of Communication, College of Fine Arts and Communication. The School enrolls approximately 800 undergraduate and 100 graduate students and offers a Bachelor of Science in Communication, with concentrations in Communication and Media, Journalism, or Public Relations; a Master of Arts; and an Accelerated Master of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Strategic Communication. The Center for Communication Excellence is housed here.
Responsibilities
- Teach public speaking and other core courses in the School of Communication, including introductory courses in communication and mass media, and/or communication criticism.
- Syllabus development and collaboration with faculty on curriculum development.
- Engage in service at the unit, college, and/or university levels.
- Support student success through ongoing teaching activities and applied experience.
Minimum Education/Experience
A master’s degree in communication is required for appointment as a Teaching Instructor. Candidates with a Ph.D. in communication may be considered for appointment as a Teaching Assistant Professor. Degrees must be conferred from an appropriately accredited institution. Candidates must have demonstrated success teaching at the college or university level in introductory courses such as public speaking, introduction to communication, introduction to mass media, and/or communication criticism.
Candidates with significant full-time college/university teaching experience may be considered for senior titles (Senior Teaching Instructor, Master Teaching Instructor, Teaching Associate Professor, or Teaching Professor) based on experience.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Knowledge of trends in the communication discipline to prepare students for a competitive job market. Experience teaching distance education courses and upper-level courses related to communication, media, and/or strategic communication is preferred.
