UNCLASSIFIED POSITION IN THE FULTON PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM.

BRANCH LOCATION: AUBURN AVENUE RESEARCH LIBRARY - PROGRAMMING; AUBURN AVENUE RESEARCH LIBRARY - COLLECTION DEVELOPMENT.

Minimum qualifications and role responsibilities apply as described below.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff and volunteers; may make hiring or disciplinary recommendations; develops and oversees employee work schedules; reviews time cards; counsels and disciplines as appropriate; assists with performance appraisals; acts as a liaison between employees and management; trains staff and volunteers in operations, policies, and procedures; works at least one late evening at a library facility and some weekends. Position can be reassigned based on the needs of the department.
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and assigns work; ensures subordinates have resources; monitors progress and quality of work; consults with staff on complex issues and provides technical expertise; reports progress to management.
  • Manages operations of a library branch or department/collection: develops short and long-range goals and objectives; interprets and complies with applicable regulations; develops and improves strategies to deliver services and programs to patrons.
  • Monitors program budgets; reviews expenditures and ensures budget compliance; approves program expenditures prior to payment.
  • Manages library branch facilities: coordinates maintenance and service. Schedules use of meeting rooms and study rooms.
  • May serve as a system-wide technical expert in a particular library support function or subject matter; provides expert advice to the public and staff.
  • Manages and evaluates the delivery of public library services to diverse communities; administers evaluations and reports on programming and statistics.
  • Develops major collections with attention to diversity; selects materials, manages purchases, and weeds outdated materials; assesses donations and maintains current knowledge of literature and trends.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with community agencies and institutions; conducts outreach events and promotions; develops partnerships and presents to community groups.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; stays current with technology and trends; participates in professional organizations and activities; attends training and continuing education.
  • Serves on professional library committees and task forces; assists with policy drafting and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science; four (4) years of professional Librarian experience, including two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience.
  • Specific License or Certification: Certification as a Professional Librarian issued by the State of Georgia within six (6) months of employment. May require a valid Georgia driver’s license depending on assignment.
  • Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Proficiency in performing essential functions and the ability to learn and apply county or departmental policies and procedures.

  • Purpose of Classification: Manages a library branch location or department; develops goals, objectives, policies, procedures, budgets, and oversees staff; coordinates outreach and programming; distinguished from Librarian, Principal by managing a department or service.
