Assistant Professor, Library and Information Science
The Morgridge College of Education (MCE) at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure track Assistant Professor position in the Library and Information Science (LIS) program. We seek a candidate with knowledge of the library and information science field, committed to engaged scholarship and inclusive pedagogy, and contributing to DU's mission of public good. The successful candidate will be expected to teach and advise Master's LIS students in our online and onsite programs.
The ALA-accredited MLIS program enrolls over 250 students and offers onsite and online program options. The MLIS@Denver online program consists of asynchronous content and synchronous weekly sessions and attracts students from across the country. The onsite program offers concentrations in Research Data Management and Teacher-Librarian and specializations in Academic Libraries, Archives, Community Engagement, Information Technology & Digital Libraries, and Public Libraries.
Essential Functions
- Pursue a strong research agenda grounded in Library and Information Science and related fields.
- Teach the equivalent of two courses per quarter each academic year (18-20 credits), including courses in the LIS in-person and online programs.
- Teach one or more core courses in the LIS program, i.e., Foundations of LIS, Research Methods, User & Access Services, Organization of Information, Management of Information Organizations, or Information Technology.
- Advise and mentor graduate students in the LIS program.
- Contribute to program, department, College, and University service.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work effectively with a varied population of graduate students, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders.
- Advanced scholarly expertise in the field of library and information science in the broad areas of libraries, archives, information organization, and community engagement. Applications from individuals with research and/or teaching interests in one or more of the following areas are especially welcome:
- Archives, cultural heritage curation, and digital preservation
- Community-centered practices, accessibility, and sustainability; community informatics
- Metadata, ontologies, and linked data.
- Excellent teaching skills in both in-person and online settings.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in information science, library science, or other related fields; ABD will be considered, but a doctorate must be earned by the start of employment
Working Environment
- Standard office environment.
- Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
- Noise level is quiet to moderate.
Physical Activities
- Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
- Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.
Work Schedule
While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $76,000-$85,000
