Radio Technician – Journeyman Locations: Everett, WA (98201) & Pasco, WA (99301) Salary: $23–$40/hr DOE Contract: Permanent Job Description Working under the general supervision of the Service Manager, this position involves system design, troubleshooting, programming, and installation of 2-way and wireless communications systems. The primary responsibilities include optimizing, maintaining, and repairing complex radio systems and 911 communications centers. This role does not include supervisory responsibilities. Essential Functions: Provide efficient customer support by diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving wireless equipment issues (in-person, by phone, email, or at the shop). Conduct diagnostic and analytical tests to repair dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, trunked systems, and mobile installations. Analyze test results to repair and program radios and wireless equipment. Collaborate with customers, vendors, and shop management on deadlines, schedules, and priorities. Prepare quotes and bids for projects. Serve as shop safety coordinator and support safety training/protocols. Install and program wireless communication systems according to industry/vendor standards. Report accidents, maintenance needs, or repairs when using company vehicles; follow safe driver procedures. Maintain Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. availability, with on-call/overtime as needed to support public safety and first responders. Be willing to travel locally or overnight. Maintain vehicles, complete time sheets, job tickets, and data entry. Retrieve parts, maintain cleanliness, and lift boxes, tools, and shop equipment as necessary. Requirements Education & Experience 3–5 years of experience in 2-way radio and wireless communication systems theory. Associate degree or equivalent in electronics/wireless repair preferred (not required). Experience with diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and programming 2-way radios, transmitters, receivers, and antennas. Knowledge of dispatch consoles, paging infrastructure, trunked radio systems, DC/AC, and RF theory. Licenses & Certifications Industry license (FCC, FICA, or NARTE). CET or NABER certification. Valid driver’s license and insurability in the state of employment. Tools & Equipment Skilled in wireless test equipment (service monitors, watt meters, VOMs, etc.). Proficient with hand tools, cordless drills, wrenches, and ladders. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, databases, and internet software. Skills & Abilities Fluent English communication, both spoken and written. Strong math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, percentages, decimals. Reliable, punctual, and able to multitask with frequent interruptions. Strong customer service, problem solving, and teamwork focus.
