Job Summary

We are currently seeking Publicists to join our Volunteer Success Team! Publicists will assist in developing and executing cohesive and award-winning publicity strategies to land our books on numerous best-seller lists, book author interviews with media, arrange/promote book-related workshops, readings, signings, and speaking engagements for the Author.

Responsibilities

Assist in the planning and execution of PR campaigns for non-fiction titles.

Develop pitches, press releases, media alerts, and other publicity materials relating to a book’s campaign.

Create and utilize media lists and conduct media outreach and follow-ups geared toward generating publicity.

Maintain relationships with key media contacts on a national, regional, and local level; continuously research new outlets for possible coverage.

Develop marketing and publicity updates that effectively communicate media opportunities with sales.

Become a trusted resource for producers, editors, writers, and reporters by providing relevant information, sources, books, and authors.

Track media activities and coverage and update author, and internal personnel.

Leverage social media to create awareness and buzz around a book’s release, both with major traditional media outlets and bloggers.

Coordinate social media and blog tours via select third-party vendors

Arrange and publicize speaking engagement bookings for Author including TEDx Talks

Optional: PR Team Building utilizing Management & Leadership Skills

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years prior work experience in publicity, with an emphasis placed on booking top-tier media in both traditional and digital outlets.

Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Advertising, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or related field.

Industry Knowledge: Keen understanding of publicity and its function is required.

Established media contacts in general market media arenas are a plus.

Book publishing experience is preferred but not required.

Ability to cultivate and sustain strong relationships with members of the media Television, documentary film or entertainment publicity experience a plus

Superb written, verbal, and interpersonal skills Excellent sense of humor

Solid project management skills
