Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, the CFS Technical Director provides strategic and technical leadership in advancing our OEM capabilities. This role suits a seasoned nuclear professional who thrives at the intersection of engineering excellence, innovation, and people leadership.
The Technical Director leads design of CFS tooling, drives industry-leading nuclear service tooling for performance and maintainability, and guides the engineering team to provide technical contributions to Marketing and Business Development capture plans.
The role builds and sustains a high-performing, multidisciplinary team to deliver world-class field services, inspection programs, and tooling solutions for CANDU reactors. The Director ensures CFS maintains certified Inspection Service Provider (ISP) status while expanding its influence across the nuclear industry.
Your role within the team Strategic Leadership & Capability Development Champion the growth and modernization of CFS capabilities, aligning with long-term OEM strategies.
Lead the development of advanced nuclear service tooling and field execution practices.
Ensure the department is adequately sized to meet current and future demands.
Drive succession planning, talent development, and knowledge transfer across the organization.
Inspection Services and Regulatory Compliance Maintain Inspection Qualification and ISP status for current Candu Field Services programs, in accordance with CAN/CSA N285.4 and ASME Section XI, Appendix VIII.
Collaborate with Operations to identify expansion of ISP status to other areas.
Ensure compliance with CSA CAN3-N299.0 and other applicable standards.
Organizational Culture & Performance Promote a strong nuclear safety culture using INPO 14-005 and INPO 12-012 principles.
Ensure adequate training programs and qualification records meet CSA CAN3 N299.0 requirements for all roles.
Drive ownership of goals from strategies and action plans to contribute to business growth; foster innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practices.
Directly oversee CFS Technical Managers for alignment with objectives.
Implement performance metrics to monitor and improve team effectiveness.
Inspire a culture of ownership, accountability, and excellence.
Industry Engagement & Brand Visibility Strengthen relationships with customers and stakeholders through regular technical engagement and site visits.
Represent CFS at industry conferences, technical forums, and knowledge-sharing events.
Support STEM outreach and public education initiatives to elevate the CANDU brand.
Operational & Technical Oversight Oversee departmental budgets, resource planning, and financial performance.
Ensure adherence to engineering governance, quality assurance, and customer standards.
Develop and maintain engineering procedures and best practices.

The ideal candidate Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university in a core engineering discipline.
Professional Engineer license in a Canadian province and/or a US state, and member in good standing.
Minimum 18 years in engineering project delivery, including: 12+ years in engineering/design roles
5+ years in leadership or management
1+ year of site-based project experience
Strong understanding of nuclear plant systems, operations, and regulatory frameworks.
Expertise in inspection qualification, welding, NDE, robotics, and tooling design for FME and EQ parameters.
Understanding of CSA N285.4 and ASME Section XI Appendix VII as related to ISP and Inspection Qualification programs.
Credibility and networks within the nuclear industry, particularly with CANDU stakeholders.
Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams in a high-performance environment.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and project planning skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities (If applicable): Lead a knowledge-based, multi-discipline engineering team.
Mentor and coach staff, including development and execution of improvement plans with regular performance feedback.
Engage in succession planning to ensure healthy leadership and engineering pipeline.
Engage in talent reviews to develop high-potential candidates for future roles.
Other aspects (If applicable): Periodic travel to project sites and customer locations as required.
