Job Description

The Office of Aeronautics is looking for a dedicated Navigation Systems - Radio Engineer 1 to help manage and maintain critical weather observation and navigational broadcast systems that play a key role in aviation safety throughout the state.

We oversee 80 Automated Weather Observation Systems (AWOS) and various navigational broadcast stations at 133 public airports, many airports are equipped with stations that transmit and receive air band signals. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge aviation technology and collaborate with the FAA, local governments, and fellow professionals in the field!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation and maintenance of new AWOS and radio stations.
  • Serve as the technician of record, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations.
  • Represent the state of Minnesota in interactions with the FAA and other local agencies.
  • Be hands-on with the installation and commissioning of new sites.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot a variety of radio systems as well as a statewide computer network for pilots.
  • Utilize telecommunications, TCP/IP networking, RF broadcasting, phone interconnect, and advanced analytical troubleshooting skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of recent advanced technical working experience (within the last four years) supporting a regional or large-scale radio communications system which includes the installation, repair, and implementation of a variety of radio communication equipment; AND

  • Hold an FCC General Class Radio Telephone License or within 6 months of hire.
  • Experience in radio frequency troubleshooting.
  • Experience with digital electronics.
  • Experience installing networking equipment using fiber optics, traditional cable, or wireless technology to move data between long and short-range sites.
  • Valid Class D Driver’s license.

Salary: $64,957.00/yr - $96,006.00/yr
