Coordinator, Writing Center
The Coordinator oversees the Weber State University Writing Center, a peer-led academic support center that assists students enrolled in writing courses as well as those working on writing assignments across the curriculum. In this role, the coordinator is responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating a team of peer tutors.
The coordinator collaborates closely with other tutoring supervisors on campus through regular meetings focused on curriculum and program development, certification processes, and tutor recognition initiatives. Key responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations in the Writing Center, facilitating tutor training and staff meetings, maintaining accurate time records, ensuring computers are functional, scheduling and training Writing Learning Assistants, and updating the Writing Center schedule on the Writing Center website.
Additionally, the coordinator fosters strong relationships with faculty and staff, promotes the Writing Center through presentations and outreach, and supports effective integration of writing support into courses across campus. The coordinator also manages the program’s budget, tracks expenditures, and prepares all required reports, memos, letters, and certification documentation.
Required Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in English or related field.
- Two years of experience writing/editing, teaching and/or academia.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in English or related field.
- Knowledge of best practices in writing center theory, peer tutoring pedagogy, and writing program administration.
- Experience teaching or tutoring writing at the college level.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Experience working with a variety of student populations, including multilingual learners.
- Interpersonal, communication, and supervisory skills.
- Knowledge of WSU software: Starfish, TAS, PAR, PawPlace, Google Workplace, Microsoft Word, Site Manager, Adobe InDesign & Premiere Pro, Argos, Canvas, and Qualtrics.
