Position Summary

As a key member of Reed Smith's Media Relations team, the Media Relations Coordinator will focus on supporting the firm's Transaction Practices. This role is responsible for helping to create, develop, plan, and execute communications strategies that raise the visibility of Reed Smith's transactional lawyers, practice areas, and client successes. The Coordinator will leverage AI-driven tools and analytics to optimize outreach efforts and will report directly to the Senior Manager, Media Relations for Transactions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the development and implementation of comprehensive media relations strategies for the firm's Transaction Practices, utilizing AI-driven tools and analytics to maximize impact. Secure placements in targeted media outlets-legal, business, policy, and technology-at the international, national, and regional levels, in line with strategic objectives and proactive opportunities. Monitor media coverage and industry trends to identify opportunities for increased visibility and thought leadership. Develop and maintain strong relationships with key journalists and editors at relevant publications. Cultivate effective working relationships with partners and attorneys in the Transaction Practices, earning their trust and collaborating on proactive media opportunities. Prepare partners for media interviews, including drafting briefing materials and providing substantive feedback following interviews. Participate in meetings with key reporters and support partners during media interactions. Draft and edit a variety of communication materials, including press releases, media pitches, pre-briefing documents, and talking points. Develop and deliver high-visibility competitive analysis reports to inform media strategy and positioning. Work closely with Business Development and Brand/Editorial Content teams to identify and promote newsworthy client work, industry trends, and firm achievements. Support internal and crisis communications strategies as needed, ensuring alignment with overall firm messaging.

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism or a related field.

Experience:

Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in public relations and/or media relations, preferably within a law firm or at an agency serving legal, financial, and/or professional services clients.. Strong background in litigation communications, PR campaigns, media outreach, and thought leadership promotion preferred.

Skills:

Superior project management and communication skills, established media contacts, the ability to operate effectively in a high-pressure, client-service environment, and familiarity with social media platforms and PR-related technologies.

Ability to read and interpret written documents, computer screens and other visual displays accurately. Ability to hear and understand verbal communication for effective collaboration. Willingness and ability to travel for meetings and training as needed. Ability to work long days as required. Required to work in office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Working Conditions:

You will be required to work in the office at minimum 3 days per week. Occasionally called upon to work hours in excess of your normal daily schedule. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor.

Pay Ranges:

This represents the presently anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith's pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

This is a

non-exempt

position. The hourly wage range for this role varies by location as follows, with estimated annual compensation based on expected hours: Dallas/Houston - $73,000 ($35.10/hr) - $81,000 ($38.94/hr) Chicago/Philadelphia - $78,000 ($37.50/hr) - $87,000 ($41.83/hr) Washington, DC - $83,000 ($39.90/hr) - $92,500 ($44.47/hr) New York - $86,000 ($47.25/hr) - $96,000 ($52.75/hr) Los Angeles - $91,000 ($43.75/hr) - $101,000 ($48.56/hr)
