Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (required).
- Paraprofessional qualifications:
2 years of college credits or a college degree or
pass the ParaPro Praxis Assessment with a score of 457 or higher or the Idaho Paraprofessional Testing Alternative with a score of 75% or higher.

Purpose
Supervises operation of and provides the services of an elementary school library; presents information to students according to district library curriculum; orders, catalogs and processes materials; maintains library catalog and circulation records; performs related work as required.
Performance Responsibilities
- Directs operation of and provides the services of an elementary school library; presents information to students about basic library skills and using print and electronic resources; develops and maintains a balanced resource collection and an accurate database of catalog and circulation records; facilitates interlibrary loan transactions; provides support and direction to volunteers.
- Supports the principal in supervising the Library Assistant/Elementary position.
The employee is supervised by the building principal. Primary duties are performed in a library/classroom environment. Employees must take required classes or document skill development within the first three years of employment.
Essential Duties
- Assists students and staff in locating books, web-based database resources, internet resources, and research materials.
- Instructs and supervises students in basic library functions and skills, including information and communication technology skills, using the web-based library catalog, care of a book, parts of a book, library location skills, listening skills, and story elements.
- Prepares and follows lesson plans according to District K-5 library instruction curriculum; monitors student progress in library and information skills.
- Checks books, materials and audio/visual equipment in and out; reshelves library resources; facilitates interlibrary loan transactions.
- Maintains accurate MARC and copy records; inventories and performs minor maintenance on books and equipment.
- Works with teachers and staff to determine library resource needs; evaluates, selects, and orders library materials; weeds the collection as needed.
- Maintains a neat and orderly library; creates bulletin boards and displays; supervises special library events (book fairs).
- Trains and supervises subordinate aides, student assistants, and volunteers; collects fines on overdue, lost, and damaged materials.
- Performs duties in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- May perform teacher assistant, lunchroom, playground, bus, and other monitoring duties as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Basic library functions and operations; classroom management.
- Operation and maintenance of standard office equipment and AV equipment.
- Computer use, including email, Internet, word processing, spreadsheets, and file management.
Abilities
- Follow oral and written instructions; observe district policies and procedures.
- Operate and maintain an elementary school library; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, staff, and district personnel.
- Implement lesson plans based on district library curriculum; manage a classroom and web-based cataloging, circulation, and search databases.
- Operate library AV equipment; communicate effectively in writing and speaking.
- Perform multiple tasks, manage time, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.
- Demonstrate integrity, ingenuity and inventiveness in performance of duties.
Qualifications Summary
- Physical ability: ability to stand or sit for long periods, lift at least 30 pounds, and maneuver book carts.
- Essential physical abilities include speech/hearing clarity, visual acuity, manual dexterity, and mobility.
Term and Evaluation
- Evaluation: Yearly by supervisor.
- Terms of employment: To be determined by calendar year. Regular attendance is essential.
