Job Title: Grant Writer

Overview

Essential role: Responsible for identifying grant opportunities, managing submission deadlines, grant writing and editing. Will assist with securing financial support for the mission and programs of GraceMed through grants and philanthropy from government entities, foundations, corporations, individuals and families, churches and associations, and other appropriate sources. The position focuses primarily on maintaining and improving GraceMed’s current government and foundation grants program and assisting in the development of a robust grant data reporting system. The role may engage in public policy and advocacy activities on behalf of the health center’s mission and will represent GraceMed’s mission with integrity and passion to the community and to GraceMed’s staff. The role works with the Chief Executive Officer and senior managers to ensure the GraceMed ministry has the appropriate level of resources to underwrite each year’s operating budget and supports capital campaign efforts to expand or replace capital assets for ministry use.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Understand government funding sources and foundation funding sources well enough to seek and identify funding opportunities.
  • Write, review, and oversee the development of grant applications and funding requests, including development of all grant-associated required documents.
  • Understand GraceMed’s programs to articulate funding needs to the donor community.
  • Gather and analyze information about the healthcare needs of GraceMed’s targeted communities and articulate those needs to the donor community.
  • Identify individual donors and create systems for seeking support.
  • Provide consistent communication to GraceMed leadership, ensuring leaders are kept up to date on grant funding progress and donor challenges.
  • Identify and report progress on key measures of productivity.
  • Perform other duties as required to assist GraceMed in achieving its mission.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses/Registrations

  • Associate’s degree or minimum of 3 years in federal grant writing and nonprofit fundraising or resource development, preferably in health care.
  • Must have successfully written and received government grant funding.

Experience

  • Demonstrate successful accomplishments in at least 2 of the following areas: corporate relations, direct mail, annual giving, major gifts, database management, donor relations, volunteer management, capital campaigns, prospect research, e-philanthropy, etc.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English. Strong editing and communication skills (written and oral) needed.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills to oversee the ongoing grant process. Strong financial skills are a plus.

Behavioral

  • Ability to solve problems and work independently in a fast-paced environment; interact with staff at all levels, government officials, governing boards, private agencies, auditors, and contractors.

Work Schedule

Normal schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Work hours may vary.

Working Conditions

Medical office environment. Multi-task oriented. May require sitting for long periods, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 20 lbs. Interact with patients, the general public, staff, and physicians. Travel up to 50% of the time to various locations in Kansas.
