Location: Hybrid in Framingham, MA (3 days in office and 2 WFH)

We have a manager finalizing approvals for a temporary PR and Media Relations Manager to cover a leave. We have not filled a role like this recently, so insights into current market rates are welcome.

PR & Media Relations Manager (Leave Coverage)

Role summary

We are seeking a contract PR and media relations manager to cover a maternity leave. The focus is public relations. You will partner with internal stakeholders and our PR agency to keep programs on track and on strategy, secure quality coverage, and manage day-to-day execution. Social experience is a nice to have for light reporting and coordination.

What you will do

Program management and partnership

  • Serve as a primary point of coordination across PR partners, including our agency, keeping priorities, timelines, and deliverables on track.
  • Run working sessions and status touchpoints, maintain trackers, and clear blockers.
  • Align story angles with business goals, document decisions, and share next steps.

Media relations and content

  • Draft and edit press releases for campaigns, partnerships, and promotions.
  • Manage Business Wire distribution and approvals.
  • Build or refine media lists and coordinate pitching and interview logistics.
  • Prepare briefing books, talking points, pull quotes, and simple Q&A.
  • Manage the publicrelations@staples.com inbox, triage inbound, and route to the right owners.

Measurement and reporting

  • Deliver concise coverage recaps with takeaways and recommendations.
  • Track themes, share of voice, and momentum against priorities.

Secondary responsibilities (social support, nice to have)

  • Light listening and monitoring in Hootsuite.
  • Basic monthly reporting against KPIs and benchmarks.
  • Coordinate influencer and paid media deliverables and timelines with partners.
  • Keep shared calendars and trackers current and help QC copy and links.

What you bring

  • 7+ years in PR or communications (GED/HS Diploma), 5+ (Bachelors), 3+ (Masters) with hands-on media relations and program management.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Experience partnering with agencies and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organization and follow through across multiple deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Business Wire. Bonus points for Muck Rack or Cision.
  • Social literacy is a plus.
  • Retail or B2B experience is a plus.
