Our tech client is looking for a Sr Visual Designer to join their Brand Design team to drive the visual direction of in-product experiences for their web and mobile app. The core focus for this product creative team is to elevate the creative direction by crafting dynamic product experiences to bring their brand across the app. In every context they aim to build a connection between products and the people who use them. They define holistic visual systems that enable brand expression including visual design, illustration, animation and interactive moments. They also craft guidance and supporting structures that ensure our brand remains consistent, coherent and harmonious when used at scale.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented creative practitioner with a passion for holistic product-design thinking and is known to be a strategic partner to cross-functional peers. They should be able to adapt to various creative styles and mediums and know how to work in product. They will collaborate with creative design, product, marketing, strategy, engineering and research teams on driving visual craft standards and quality. They may propose creative concepts as well as directly design them as an individual contributor, guiding development, presenting multiple concepts for consideration and shipping designs that align with product goals.
Portfolio Essentials: a mandatory online portfolio showing a strong collection of relevant, high-quality finished design work. Include in-process examples or case studies that demonstrate design thinking, problem-solving, and how concepts evolved from brief to final execution. For each portfolio piece, outline project objectives, design process, challenges, and measurable outcomes; demonstrate adherence to brand guidelines and how they were applied to ensure consistency and brand integrity.
Role Responsibilities
- Lead creative development of visual elements and systems in collaboration with product designers, art directors, design teammates, illustrators, animators and external partners
- Direct and execute design of creative assets in various styles and mediums
- Create sketches, storyboards, prototypes and/or design specs to guide art and product development
- Deliver products that are delightful, strategically impactful, and showcase high craft
- Collaborate cross-functionally to balance stakeholder needs and translate complex requirements into simple, compelling solutions
- Clearly articulate concepts and vision with cross-functional teams and vendors to achieve shared milestones
- Foster a culture of excellence with a focus on craft and quality
- Collaborate with product, research and engineering teams to identify opportunities for product enhancements that elevate brand expression
- Lead development of culturally sensitive and appropriate creative for multiple global markets
- Align on key priorities with cross-functional teams to build shared goals and milestones
Must Have Skills
- 8+ years’ experience encompassing interaction design and visual design across platforms
- Experience working cross-functionally with product, design, engineering, marketing and user research teams
- Experience building and shipping applications or software across multiple platforms
- Experience leading design direction across multidisciplinary teams, with ability to identify visual design opportunities and elevate the product
- Ability to present work to broad stakeholders and clearly articulate goals and concepts
- Capability to shift from strategy to creative to user experience to tactical execution
- Understanding of when to take a high-level view vs. zoom into details
- Excellent presentation and communication skills; ability to explain rationale and influence decisions
- Ability to incorporate feedback quickly and iteratively
- Fosters an inspiring and inclusive team culture with an emphasis on voice and contribution
- Knowledge of design principles related to systems, brand, marketing, UX, information architecture and typography
- Experience coordinating and directing contractors, agencies and in-house designers
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $110.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be limited by plan terms. Eligible benefits for this temporary role may include:
