APPOINTMENTS FROM THE PART-TIME POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. JOURNALISM DEPARTMENT - PART-TIME LECTURER POOL. The Journalism Department, College of Liberal Arts, California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers with positions available as determined by need and funding during the Fall, Winter and/or Spring quarters of the 2025-26 academic year, beginning September 11, 2025. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate news reporting and editing, multimedia and digital journalism, videography, visual communication, feature writing, radio and TV broadcasting, advertising, public relations, multicultural journalism and media law courses.

Salary and Rank

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
  • Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,221

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in journalism or a related discipline; extensive professional media or public relations experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree and previous college teaching experience preferred.

About the Department

The Journalism Department in the College of Liberal Arts offers a professional degree program that leads to a B.S. in Journalism. Graduates pursue careers in digital, print and broadcast journalism, public relations, media innovation and related fields. The department operates the campus newspaper and its media outlets, including radio and TV stations.
