Overview

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
GBH's Digital Content Team provides production, journalism, and business units with strategic guidance, audience development support, digital content production, and experimental support. The team comprises digital producers with skills in digital video, podcasting, social media, email, and website content development.
JOB OVERVIEW
As a Podcast Producer, you will play a dual role within our podcast unit: producing for GBH News' Big Dig series and serving as a project manager for other GBH podcast productions. In your producer capacity, you will work with the Managing Producer and Big Dig host to shape narrative vision and execution, guiding episodes from conception through production and project shutdown. In your project management role, you will be the organizational backbone for other GBH podcasts, shepherding projects from pre-production through launch across multiple departments, supporting producers, and ensuring seamless execution and PRX distribution.
This is a hybrid role with in-office days currently set for Tuesday and Wednesday.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Big Dig series production (65%)
- Create prep materials for producer and host review prior to interviews
- Attend editorial and production planning meetings
- Help develop the production calendar
- Help create a media filing system for the series (preps, scripts, audio files, mixes, release forms, etc.)
- Help maintain production trackers and project folders
- Draft pitch pages or episode outlines for the series
- Book, prep and record interviews
- Sync, transcribe, and organize raw interview audio
- Research and compile clips or archival audio for the show
- Do a first pass on selecting the best tape from interviews
- Liaise with GBH legal for fair use, rights clearance and defamation review
Project management (35%)
- Create and maintain series transcripts for archives and GBH.org
- Maintain GBH News series marketing, media and cross promo tracker
- Maintain series legal folder including episode review, licenses, signed release forms, fair use claims, etc.
- Create series episode logs for PIM/archives team
- Maintain series rights clearance spreadsheet
- Oversee PIM management for all GBH News podcasts including licenses, logs, contracts, etc.
- Manage GBH News series shutdown processes
- Liaise with and manage podcast launch and distribution between GBH & PRX
- Report on podcast analytics
- Provide production support, including managing production schedules
- Maintain organization and updating of series Google folders
- Maintain podcast spreadsheet on current productions, release schedules, and publish dates
- Handle podcast management including publishing, metrics, and fixing tech issues in Dovetail, CMS & with platforms for all GBH podcasts (local, national, and kids)
- Assist with Spotify for Creators/video organization & maintenance of video podcast elements, logs, releases, legal review, fair use, and image rights/licenses
- Support series shutdowns as needed
SKILL SET
- Ability to jump between projects and teams at any stage in the production process
- A love of podcast and audio production
- Strong attention to detail for legal documentation, rights clearances, and compliance tracking
- Excellent written communication for prep materials, outlines, and reports
- Strong research skills for guest sourcing, fact-checking, and archival content
- Proficiency in project management tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Trello, Asana, etc.)
- Experience with podcast hosting platforms and CMS systems
- Comfort analyzing podcast metrics and translating data into actionable recommendations
- Ability to create and maintain detailed production schedules and timelines
- Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to troubleshoot technical issues independently
- Skills in ProTools, Adobe Audition or other audio editing software a plus
- Familiarity with Dovetail or similar podcast analytics/distribution platforms a plus
- Experience with transcription software and services a plus
- Knowledge of fair use, licensing, and media rights clearance processes a plus
- Background in journalism, media production, or related field a plus
- Ability to work various shifts and times, including evening and special events as needed
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required
- A minimum of 3 years producing high quality audio content, preferably with fact-checking and project management experience
- Experience growing podcast audiences through cross promotion, content repurposing, and other marketing opportunities
- Experience working with cross-functional teams (editorial, marketing, legal, technical)
- Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining quality standards
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects with varying timelines
- Desire to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment
- Experience with series-based or narrative podcast production preferred
- Familiarity with public media or educational content production preferred
- Background in digital asset management and archival processes preferred
- Previous experience in Boston media market or familiarity with New England subjects/stories preferred
- Experience with children\'s or educational podcast content preferred
