KCCI, the CBS affiliate in Des Moines, has an opening for a versatile and experienced Newscast Director to lead the technical and operational aspects of our live newscasts. This role combines the responsibilities of both technical direction and robotic camera operation, requiring broad knowledge of broadcast production activities and strong hands-on skills with studio equipment. You will work closely with producers, directors, and on-air talent to ensure seamless newscasts and other productions. You will report to the Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the visual direction and technical execution of live newscasts
- Provide creative input and collaborate with producers, directors, and production crew
- Call and punch newscasts with precision and accuracy
- Operate and maintain robotic television cameras for live broadcasts and production settings
- Set up, operate, and maintain studio lighting
- Operate and troubleshoot robotic cameras and related broadcast systems
- Use Windows-based computer software for video playback and recording preparation
- Maintain punctual attendance for early morning, weekend, and holiday shifts
- Engage proactively with the team to resolve unanticipated issues quickly
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience working as a technical director or camera operator at a commercial television station
- Hands-on experience operating professional video cameras, audio equipment, and studio lighting
- Experience with Sony DVS Production Switcher, ENPS, VIZ RT graphics, Bitcentral video playback
- Knowledge of robotic camera systems and Windows-based computer software
- Knowledge of Ignite Automation or experience with production control automation systems
- Ability to work flexible hours, including mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Must be able to climb ladders up to 15 feet and lift up to 25 pounds
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to perform under pressure
- Must have reliable transportation
- Related military experience will be considered
