Overview
Speech-Language Pathologist/Audio (Finance) This position assesses, diagnoses, treats, educates, and helps to prevent disorders related to speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, and fluency. Speech-Language Pathologists/Audiologists use special instruments and qualitative and quantitative assessment methods, including standardized tests, to analyze and diagnose the nature and extent of impairments.
Nature of Work
Speech-Language Pathologists/Audiologists support a variety of areas in a health clinic or can be assigned primarily to one specialty area, such as Pediatrics. They may also work in a school, or as part of a program or outreach project. This exempt position works under little to no supervision when working with patients. A Speech-Language Pathologist/Audiologist routinely diagnoses and evaluates patients with a variety of speech and/or hearing delays and impairments. This position requires the use of a variety of special instruments (video fluoroscopy, EMG, nasendoscopy, stroboscopy) to observe, collect data, and measure parameters of communication, swallowing, or other upper aero digestive functions. A Speech-Language Pathologist/Audiologist may perform their job as part of an interdisciplinary team, and would typically have contact with: patients, patient\'s family, physicians, social workers, psychologists, and other therapists. School-based pathologists/audiologists will typically collaborate with teachers, special educators, counselors, interpreters, and other school personnel. A master\'s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and possession of the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) or audiology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; or possession of a certificate to practice speech-language pathology or audiology in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes.

Responsibilities
- Conducts evaluations of speech-language disorders or hearing disorders.
- Prepares written recommendations for treatment to improve the speech-language or hearing ability of individuals.
- Writes reports on individuals receiving treatment.
- Conducts treatment sessions on an individual or group basis based on the development of treatment plans.
- Prepares and maintains files for each client.
- Utilizes appropriate diagnostic and treatment materials and instrumentation for the purpose of differential diagnosis, treatment, and the evaluation of treatment outcomes.
- Lectures on and demonstrates the principles, approaches and procedures of differential diagnosis and the treatment of speech-language or hearing disorders.
- Evaluates student performance in clinical practice courses.
- Facilitates the process of obtaining funding for equipment and services related to difficulties with communication and swallowing.
- Provides referrals and information to other professionals, agencies, and/or consumer organizations.
- NOTE: This position will service Hillsborough and other nearby counties. This position is not eligible for via sponsorship.
