Overview

Audio Visual Technical Coordinator at North Wind Services (NWS). The position supports national security missions within federal research and development installations, including the Department of Energy. Employees may perform a range of roles from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions. The successful candidate will be an employee of NWS, with day-to-day direction from technical personnel at the laboratories. Pay, benefits, and employment management functions are provided by NWS.

Responsibilities

  • Install and configure audio, video, and Video Teleconferencing (VTC) systems, including Control Systems, Digital Signal Processors (DSP), Matrix Switchers, and other A/V equipment.
  • Pull cables, install connectors, mount A/V equipment, and perform metal/mechanical fabrication.
  • Read and interpret electronic schematics and architectural blueprints; perform rack wiring based on industry standards and security requirements.
  • Use hand tools and power tools; solder and crimp connectors (XLR, RJ45, TRS, BNC, F-CONN); perform field load and test of code/configurations for A/V, VTC, and DSP systems.
  • Make programming changes under direction of lead programmer; perform non-routine installation/configuration tasks and provide recommendations for audio, video, and control schematics and diagrams.
  • Configure A/V equipment from vendors such as AMX, Extron, Cisco, ClearOne, Crestron, and other major vendors.
  • Ensure successful commissioning and customer handoff of systems; contribute to user training and support as needed.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance; U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Associates degree in telecommunications, electronics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Knowledge of signal flow for audio, video, and control; experience configuring A/V equipment from vendors such as AMX, Extron, Cisco, ClearOne, Crestron, etc.
  • Experience configuring, loading, and testing code/configurations for control of A/V, VTC, and DSP systems; ability to troubleshoot A/V equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow schematics, sketches, drawings, specifications, and procedures; operate hand and power tools; climb ladders; lift up to 75 pounds (pre-employment medical exam may be required).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; advanced knowledge of signal flow for audio, video, and control systems.
  • Ability to create and edit schematics, sketches, drawings, specifications, and procedures.

Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Advanced experience configuring A/V equipment from vendors such as AMX, Extron, Cisco, ClearOne, Crestron, etc.
  • A/V vendor certifications.
  • Completion of OSHA 10-Hour Construction Course.
  • Completion of InfoComm Quick Start to the Audiovisual Industry Course.

Special Requirements

  • Pre-Placement Medical Exam may be required.
  • Pre-employment drug test required for external applicants selected for this position.
  • Anticipated Clearance Level: Q; position will be cleared to this level. Applicants are subject to federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. All L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
