Pay
Pay Range: $1,440 - $1,700 per credit hour. Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months’ salary unless otherwise specified.

Job Description
The Fashion Design Program in the School of Design at Syracuse University is seeking a part-time faculty member for the Spring 2026 semester to teach a three-course in Contemporary Issues in Fashion. This online synchronous course invites students to engage with complex questions shaping the fashion industry today. We are particularly interested in candidates whose scholarship or creative practice explores the cultural politics of fashion, including (but not limited to):
- Cultural appropriation and intellectual property
- Gender, sexuality, and fashion’s role in identity-making
- Indigenous, diasporic, and/or marginalized textile and dress practices
- Sustainability, ethics, and global labor justice
The successful candidate will guide students in connecting theory to practice, using readings, case studies, and examples from contemporary media and cultural production. Applicants with a record of writing, research, or curatorial work at the intersection of fashion and cultural studies are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in fashion design, fashion history, or similar
- Professional experience in fashion industry or fashion media a plus
- University level or online teaching experience a plus
Job Specific Qualifications
- Able to use Blackboard and embedded video conferencing for course meetings and providing materials to students.
Responsibilities
- Develop and/or update a class syllabus.
- Order appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
- Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
- Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
- Meet all designated class periods.
- Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
- Grade student assignments and examinations in a timely manner.
- Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
