Overview
The ACEJMC-accredited School of Journalism and Strategic Media at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for an interactive media full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#144130) at the rank of assistant or associate professor. The start date for the position is August 1, 2026. The successful applicant will teach interactive media and other courses in the School of Journalism and Strategic Media. The school requires a record of excellence in teaching, peer-reviewed creative activity (such as juried competitions/shows, app development, etc.) or scholarly research, and service to the school, college, university, and the profession.

Responsibilities
The successful applicant will teach interactive media and other courses in the School of Journalism and Strategic Media.
Other responsibilities include contributing to teaching excellence, engaging in peer-reviewed creative activity or scholarly research, and participating in service to the school, college, university, and the profession in accordance with the university and school requirements.
Required Education
- A terminal degree in a communication or media-related field or a closely related field is required by the appointment date.
- A master’s degree in a communication or media-related field or a closely related field with four (4) years of full-time communication or media-focused professional work experience by the appointment date will be considered in lieu of a terminal degree.
Note: To receive experience credit for full-time, freelance work, applicants must list each project with a description, including the project's length, on their CVs.
Other Desirables / Special Consideration
- Applicants with professional industry experience and connections related to social media, content strategy, digital media, digital communication, interactive media, or related fields.
- Proficiency with industry-standard software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere) and Figma.
- Experience in interactive media design, writing for online, mobile, and game platforms, social media content strategy, immersive or 360 video storytelling, strategic storytelling, audience research and analysis, or related areas.
- Knowledge of online content and media strategy for current and emerging technologies, theory and history of digital and interactive media, SEO, generative AI, personal branding, and interactive media career preparation.
- Ability to teach in multiple concentrations and degrees within the School of Journalism and Strategic Media.
- Experience teaching interactive media-related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Ability to develop courses to match changing media industries, advise students on internships and career paths, and lead student and industry-focused initiatives.
