Be among the first 25 applicants Overview In the Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) role at Spectrum News, you’ll be at the heart of every story by talking to members of your community. MMJs are enterprising storytellers who uncover perspectives that might otherwise go unreported. From pitching to writing, shooting, interviewing, and editing, you’ll own each step of the storytelling process and collaborate with a team to create compelling, timely, and accurate coverage across traditional and digital platforms. Part of Charter Communications, Spectrum News operates more than 30 hyper-local news and regional sports networks dedicated to original, unbiased, high-quality content. We publish via the Spectrum News app and connected TV and provide 24-hour news across multiple platforms. Responsibilities Pitch, write, shoot, interview, and edit stories to deliver engaging local coverage Collaborate with a team to produce content for TV, connected television, and digital platforms Engage with the community to uncover important local issues and stories What You’ll Enjoy Connecting with neighbors and digging into issues that matter to the local community Telling stories across platforms including TV, connected TV, and digital Working with flexible deadlines and a supportive team to maintain work-life balance Required Qualifications Experience: Television news reporting – 3+ years Education: Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field; or comparable television work experience Technical Skills: Ability to shoot videos, understanding of video editing software, and use of social media Skills: Strong on-camera communication and writing abilities Abilities: Curiosity and sense of urgency for compelling storytelling; physical ability to lift up to 30 pounds Travel: Willingness to travel to discover important stories and engage with the community Schedule: Ability to work under deadlines and flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays as needed for breaking news or severe weather Driver’s License: Valid license for authorized driving in the state of residence Preferred Qualifications Experience working in a 24-hour news environment Working Conditions Work indoors in a climate-controlled environment and outdoors in varying weather conditions Here, our employees aren’t just filling roles—they’re building careers.
