PT Mobile Library Assistant JOB SUMMARY

The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of informational and recreational services for mobile library patrons and support the library goals in the community through the operation of the mobile library branch.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Greet and assist library users employing exemplary customer service skills. Effectively communicate and promote library mission and services. Perform general circulation routines as appropriate: efficiently check materials in and out, place holds, renew items, pull materials for homebound patrons. Process applications for and issue new library cards following appropriate procedures. Process materials and notices for the Mobile Library branch. Resolve questions regarding library patron accounts and general library information. Respect the confidentiality of library patrons and records. Drive the Mobile Library in the absence of the Mobile Library Coordinator or as needed. Assist with daily vehicle checklist and logs and communicate vehicle issues to supervisors immediately. Participate in vehicle upkeep and maintenance. Select and load materials appropriate for the day's route. Assist Mobile Library patrons in locating library materials, answer reference and readers advisory questions. Assist with the rotation of Mobile Library inventory. Keep the interior of the mobile library branch neat and orderly. Sort, shelve, and file various library materials accurately according to classification systems. Shift, straighten, rearrange library materials as needed. Load and offload carts of materials for lobby stops and other visits. Instruct patrons how to use library resources, including electronic resources and digital content. Assist patrons with Wi-Fi, computers, and mobile printing. Adapt to new technologies. Assist the Mobile Library Coordinator with creation, implementation, setup, and execution of programming and other outreach efforts and events. Maintain statistics for library reports. Work positively and collaboratively with other library staff. Ensure patrons comply with all applicable rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.

Communicate with supervisor, co-workers, volunteers, library patrons, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.

Operate a personal computer, handheld devices, general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of library apps, word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software. Provide support for programs by preparing supplies, setting up/taking down tables and chairs, engaging with patrons and the public, and promoting library services. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Ability to work scheduled hours, which include evenings and some Saturdays. Ability to operate an extended length Sprinter van 24ft. long and 10ft. high. Ability to provide customer service to youth, teen, adults, and seniors. Performs other related duties as required, assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:

High school education or GED is required.

Experience in library or customer service work preferred.

Bilingual Spanish/English language skills preferred. Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Special Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of library procedures. Knowledge of customer service principles. Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs and applications. Knowledge of policy research, analysis, and composition. Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing. Skill in the use of computers for data entry, word processing, presentations. Skill in the use of small office equipment, including but not limited to: printers/copy machines or desk phones. Ability to build rapport. Ability to listen. Ability to multi-task. Ability to take direction and execute assignments in a timely manner. Ability to work semi-independently, work well with others, and manage time effectively. Ability to establish and maintain general working relationships with City employees, outside agencies, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires the ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically up to 50 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires the ability to bend, crouch, twist, reach, and crawl to get oneself and items in and out of the Mobile Library and the ability to stand for at least 1 hour at a time.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a variety of work environments, in and out of buildings, and of varying temperatures on and off the Mobile Library. The City of Myrtle Beach has the right to revise this job description at any time. This
