Position Summary The primary function of this part-time position is to perform a wide variety of technical and clerical library work related to such activities as cataloging, circulation, acquisitions, and assisting patrons. The principal duties of the position are performed in a library and general office environment.

Schedule: Monday & Wednesday from 4:30 pm-7:30 pm & Friday from 9:00 am-5:30 pm.

Primary Responsibilities

Opens and closes Library; Assists patrons with locating books and other materials or use of Library equipment; Issues new and replacement Library cards; Creates, edits, and renews customer accounts; Works at circulation desk charging, discharging, and renewing items; Checks patrons on and off and monitors computer and Internet use; Checks patrons on and off and instructs in Microfiche use; Operates copy equipment for Library and patron use; Responds to telephone inquiries; Collects overdue fines; Places, removes, and processes customer reserves and calls patrons for holds; Processes damaged items; Shelves items and checks for incorrectly shelved items; Searches shelves for items claimed returned; Checks in and tracks serials on the serial control system; Maintains magazine and newspaper display area with clear labeling; Under Librarian direction, screens outdated newspapers, magazines, and other materials; Performs database maintenance on the Library's computer catalog; Creates labels for Library materials; Mends and processes Library materials; Under Librarian's direction, discards materials, routing to book sale or other final disposition; Receives shipping boxes of material, checks contents against invoice and prepares items for patron use; Assists with reading programs, book sales, and other community events; Performs all duties and work activities in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safety practices. Conducts Library tours; Compiles data and prepares summary activity reports; Performs other duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Current Library policies, procedures, methods, and objectives; Customer service methods, procedures, and objectives; Basic bookkeeping, cash handling, and accounting methods and procedures; Operation of specialized library equipment; Operation of standard office equipment, personal computer, and job-related software. Follow oral and written instructions; Listen to and comprehend patron requests; Learn and apply Library policies and procedures; Answer telephones and provide information regarding the Library and its services; Keep records and compile reports; Learn and use new technologies; Operate a computer system used for circulating books and Library materials; Operate library equipment such as microform readers and printers, laminators, copiers, repair equipment and tools, and other specialized library equipment; Perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines; Operate standard office equipment including a personal computer using program applications appropriate to assigned duties; Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with the public and other employees. Education Experience and Training

High school diploma or GED equivalency; or current high school student. Some previous library experience preferred; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. Idaho Driver's License may be required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee may be required to stay in a stationary position or stand for extended periods of time. The position requires sufficient clarity of speech and hearing with or without reasonable accommodation, to understand and follow verbal instructions and communicate effectively with other employees and the public via telephone and in person. The employee may be required to have manual dexterity, physical reflexes and personal mobility and stamina, to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements for this position include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet - typical of what is generally found in a library setting. The employee will occasionally be exposed to inclement weather and tripping hazards.
