Our National Conversation is hiring: Creative Political Writers in Los Angeles

Overview

We are looking for 3-4 drama, theater and debate major types. We want them to be the “face” of ONC and act out short videos and other content. We need creative writers to back them up by providing material, jokes, and scripts. If you can handle both roles, all the better. There is no pay at this time, but you will get excellent hands-on experience and a chance to build your resume.

We’re looking for new ideas in addition to our existing concepts. The team aims for a Saturday Night Live–style vibe, with equal opportunity humor that pokes fun at liberals, moderates, and conservatives alike. This is a remote, project-based opportunity with semester scheduling.

Be ready to commit to four to 10 hours a week. We are completely remote and use Slack, Google Drive and Zoom to communicate. There are two one-hour mandatory meetings each week. We operate on a semester basis; if you can commit to at least two or three semesters, that’s a big plus.

Responsibilities

• Be the face of ONC and act in short videos and other content.
• Provide material, jokes, and scripts to support performers.
• Handle both acting and writing roles if possible.
• Develop ideas and formats similar to previously successful concepts (e.g., “Explain That to Me Again?” and “Uncle Sam” style pieces).
• Contribute new creative energy from candidates who understand a comedic, edgy vibe and aim for inclusive humor.
• Collaborate remotely using Slack, Google Drive and Zoom; participate in two mandatory weekly meetings.
• Commit to at least two to three semesters if possible.
