Job Summary
Reporting to the Head of Access Services at Georgia Southern University, this faculty position is responsible for directing library services at East Georgia State College. East Georgia State College and Georgia Southern University will consolidate effective January 1, 2026. We invite applications for the position of East Georgia Librarian and tenure-track Assistant Professor.
Responsibilities
This position acts as the primary contact person for the East Georgia Library and provides active leadership and coordination of multi-service units that include circulation, reserves, equipment, stack maintenance, interlibrary loan/ document delivery, GIL Express, and hours of operations. The East Georgia Librarian works collaboratively with other library faculty and supervises two staff employees. This position is responsible for the hiring, training, and scheduling of East Georgia Library personnel they supervise. The East Georgia Librarian will work closely with the Head of Access Services at Georgia Southern University to coordinate a myriad of library related projects. Required hours: M-F, occasional nights and weekends, shift hours are subject to change.
This position works independently with minimum supervision, exercises independent judgement, consults and makes decision or recommendations regarding procedures and policies for East Georgia Library in consultation with colleagues at the Georgia Southern University Libraries. The successful candidate will positively represent the university in professional, community, and state organizations by actively participating in professional development and continuing education; serving on professional, library, and state committees; and actively engaging in professional activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops, implements, and manages services, procedures and policies for public, technical, and information services.
- Oversees East Georgia Library including course reserves, interlibrary loan, patron point-of-contact services at the welcome desk, stack maintenance, establishing library hours of operations, and assisting library users.
- Supervises and evaluates department staff in an atmosphere that encourages professional development.
- Administers the library's services platforms.
- Assists with budget requests and identifying funding needs.
- Provides face-to-face and electronic services to faculty, staff, students, and the public; advising patrons of library programs, procedures, and policies.
- Develops and implements library outreach strategies in partnership with Communications & Marketing Committee, including social media; promotes library services within the college community.
- Participates in library instruction as needed, including, but not limited to demonstrating the use of library sources and techniques, library tours, and workshops.
- Aids in the development and production of research guides, tutorials, and other informational materials in a variety of formats.
- Participates in the selection of materials and formats in the development of the library collection.
- Prepares library statistical reports as requested.
- Serve on committees and task forces and be active professionally.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Earned MLIS in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
- Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
- Willingness to commit to advancing a strong and growing research and scholarship agenda and the production of research /creative activities as appropriate to the discipline.
- Willingness to commit to professional development as appropriate to the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using online learning platforms such as Zoom, Springshare, library services platforms, such as ALMA or FOLIO; and experience working in a library setting.
Proposed Salary
$60,000.00 - $62,500.00
