Overview

Adjunct Instructor - Music (Trumpet) at Utah Valley University. UVU's Department of Music invites applications for an adjunct instructor of trumpet. We are seeking a dynamic and versatile educator to teach applied trumpet lessons across classical, jazz, and contemporary styles. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with motivated students in a supportive and collegial department that values high-quality instruction, artistic excellence, and student-centered learning. The successful candidate will contribute to the growth and success of our music program by preparing effective lessons, assessing student progress through a variety of methods, and participating in department activities such as auditions, juries, and master classes.

In addition to applied teaching, there may be opportunities for further instruction in areas aligned with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs, such as ensemble coaching, pedagogy, music theory, history, commercial music, or music education. Summary of Responsibilities

Duties

Teach applied lessons in trumpet (classical, jazz, and contemporary styles).
Plan and follow an approved course of study with measurable objectives for each course taught.
Prepare instructional materials and evaluate instruction and learning by means of written, oral, practical, and performance tests.
Maintain a student-oriented approach to teaching.
Participate in auditions, juries and master classes as needed.
Submit student grades and all requested departmental materials in a timely manner.
Attend required department and/or program meetings.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor2;s degree in the subject matter or a closely related area, OR a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's or Doctorate degree preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

Knowledge of subject matter and course content of courses taught. Knowledge of best practices in instructional strategies and techniques.
Knowledge of current trends in education.

Skills

Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations of students.
